DC Wood is live at dcwood.org and returns a 403 to everything that is not a person in a browser, so we can confirm it exists and nothing else.

The name is the pitch. A league that calls itself Wood has told you its one non-negotiable rule before you have clicked anything, and in a metro area where the largest league runs metal in its 18+ division, that is a deliberate distinction rather than a default.

We carry two Washington listings, this and DCMSBL, and only one of them will talk to us. Organisers, send the divisions and the season and we will give this the entry it deserves.

The DC Men's Baseball League runs six age divisions in spring and summer, at 18+, 30+, 38+, 48+, 58+ and 68+, then adds 35+, 55+ and 70+ for the fall. Nine brackets across a year is a serious piece of scheduling, and the league claims to be the largest adult amateur and wood bat league in the DC metro.

The bat rule is stated with unusual care: every age group uses wood, except 18+, which mostly uses metal but may use wood if it wants to. That is a league that has had the argument, made a decision, and then left the youngest division a way out of it.

Spring runs early April to mid-August with playoffs; fall picks up after Labor Day and finishes by the end of October. Games are spread across DC, Maryland and Virginia, which is three jurisdictions and a great deal of traffic. Teams travel to the Arizona World Series and the Florida Fall Classic. Free agents join a waiting list through LeagueApps.

Common questions

  • How many adult baseball leagues are there in Washington D.C.?

High Cheese currently tracks 2 active adult leagues in Washington D.C., carrying 10 teams between them. That is what we can stand behind today, not a claim that nothing else exists. Leagues form in somebody's driveway every spring and tell no one for two years.

  • How do I join a league in Washington D.C.?

Make a profile and turn the free agent switch on. That is the whole ask. Managers across Washington D.C. search this pool the week their shortstop discovers a work trip every Saturday through August, and they find whoever put themselves in it. You list what you throw, where you play, how far you will drive. The invitation comes to you. The other route is emailing an address nobody has opened since the last board handover, then waiting.

  • When does the season run in Washington D.C.?

Season lengths differ by league and are listed with each one below where the league states them. Broadly, amateur baseball is a late-spring-to-early-autumn arrangement, compressed at the northern end of the map into whatever window the weather grudgingly concedes.

  • Which Washington D.C. towns have leagues?

Leagues on this page are based in Washington. Most draw players from well outside their listed town, so a drive is normal and nobody will think less of you for it.
