Sioux Amateur Baseball League

The Sioux Amateur Baseball League is the only South Dakota listing in our records, based in Sioux Falls.

South Dakota has a strong amateur baseball tradition of the same kind as Minnesota's town ball, with village teams and a state tournament that has run for decades, and one entry in this directory badly undersells it. The gap is ours.

Sioux Falls is the largest city in the state at about two hundred thousand and has grown steadily while much of the rural population has not. We could not extract the divisions or the season from the site.

Before you ask

Common questions

  • How many adult baseball leagues are there in South Dakota?

High Cheese currently tracks 1 active adult league in South Dakota, carrying 9 teams between them. That is what we can stand behind today, not a claim that nothing else exists. Leagues form in somebody's driveway every spring and tell no one for two years.

  • How do I join a league in South Dakota?

Make a profile and turn the free agent switch on. That is the whole ask. Managers across South Dakota search this pool the week their shortstop discovers a work trip every Saturday through August, and they find whoever put themselves in it. You list what you throw, where you play, how far you will drive. The invitation comes to you. The other route is emailing an address nobody has opened since the last board handover, then waiting.

  • When does the season run in South Dakota?

Season lengths differ by league and are listed with each one below where the league states them. Broadly, amateur baseball is a late-spring-to-early-autumn arrangement, compressed at the northern end of the map into whatever window the weather grudgingly concedes.

  • Which South Dakota towns have leagues?

Leagues on this page are based in Sioux Falls. Most draw players from well outside their listed town, so a drive is normal and nobody will think less of you for it.
