Playing baseball in New Mexico

  • Albuquerque
  • Est. 1992
  • 18+ and 30+
  • MSBL/MABL

The New Mexico Adult Baseball League has run since 1992 out of Albuquerque with 18+ and 30+ divisions, playing March through September.

A seven-month season is the longest of any northern-latitude league in this directory and it is entirely a function of altitude and dryness. Albuquerque sits at five thousand feet in high desert, which means the spring arrives early, the summer evenings cool off fast, and the ground almost never gets too wet to play on.

All skill levels welcome, a free agent list for anyone arriving without a team, and the whole thing runs on TeamSnap. [email protected].

  • Santa Fe
  • Est. 2019
  • 50+ and 60+
  • MSBL/MABL

The Northern New Mexico 50+/60+ league was founded in 2019, and our record for it points at a third-party directory listing rather than anything the league publishes itself.

That means we are citing somebody else's description, which is the weakest kind of source and worth flagging every time it happens. This is the second entry in this directory in that position, alongside Silicon Valley's.

Two age brackets, fifty and sixty, in a city of ninety thousand at seven thousand feet. Santa Fe's population skews considerably older than the national average, which makes a 50+/60+ league there a better fit than it would be almost anywhere else.

  • Santa Fe
  • Est. 1993
  • 18+
  • MSBL/MABL

Northern New Mexico MABL has run since 1993 out of Santa Fe and has no website in our records. We separately carry a Northern New Mexico 50+/60+ league, founded 2019, whose only address is a third-party directory listing.

Santa Fe sits at seven thousand feet, the highest state capital in the country, and baseball there is played in air thin enough to matter. It is also a small city, around ninety thousand, supporting two adult baseball records in our files.

Thirty-three years with no findable address. Send us one.

  • Santa Fe
  • Other

The Santa Fe Rec Adult Baseball League is run by the city, and its address is a page five levels deep inside santafenm.gov, under public works, parks and open space, and the municipal recreation complex.

That URL is the most fragile in this directory. Municipal content management systems get reorganised, and when they do, a link like this breaks silently, exactly as our Monterey record already has.

City-run recreation baseball is the cheapest way into the sport in most towns and the hardest to find, because the department running it also runs swimming, tennis and everything else. Santa Fe is the third of our three northern New Mexico records.

Before you ask

Common questions

  • How many adult baseball leagues are there in New Mexico?

High Cheese currently tracks 4 active adult leagues in New Mexico, carrying 0 teams between them. That is what we can stand behind today, not a claim that nothing else exists. Leagues form in somebody's driveway every spring and tell no one for two years.

  • How do I join a league in New Mexico?

Make a profile and turn the free agent switch on. That is the whole ask. Managers across New Mexico search this pool the week their shortstop discovers a work trip every Saturday through August, and they find whoever put themselves in it. You list what you throw, where you play, how far you will drive. The invitation comes to you. The other route is emailing an address nobody has opened since the last board handover, then waiting.

  • When does the season run in New Mexico?

Season lengths differ by league and are listed with each one below where the league states them. Broadly, amateur baseball is a late-spring-to-early-autumn arrangement, compressed at the northern end of the map into whatever window the weather grudgingly concedes.

  • Which New Mexico towns have leagues?

Leagues on this page are based in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Most draw players from well outside their listed town, so a drive is normal and nobody will think less of you for it.
