Louisiana Baseball Leagues

Every adult baseball league we track in Louisiana: what each one actually is, where it plays, and who to talk to. Written from the leagues’ own words where they still keep words somewhere, and honestly labelled where they do not.

The NOLA Adult Baseball League keeps its presence on Facebook, which we cannot read past the login.

It shares a city with The People's Baseball League, whose co-ed sandlot arrangement is one of the more distinctive things in this directory, and the two are plainly different propositions. A conventional adult league in New Orleans has an audience the sandlot league does not, and vice versa.

New Orleans baseball has a deep and specific history, from the semi-pro and Negro League clubs through to the players the city still produces. Two adult leagues is not many for that heritage. Organisers: send us a season and a field and we will carry this properly.

  • Shreveport
  • 3 teams
  • MSBL/MABL

This record and our Red River MSBL entry point at the same LeagueLineup account, redriverbaseball, one at the welcome page and one at an interior information page. They are the same league recorded twice.

The league's own history explains how that happens. It was founded in 1993 as the Shreveport-Bossier Men's Senior Baseball League and renamed the Red River Adult Baseball League in 2009, so both names are correct and both have been in circulation for years. A directory collecting from more than one source will pick up both.

Everything worth knowing is on the Red River MSBL entry: two divisions at 18+ and 27+, twelve games from late April to August, wood bats, $240, and a substitute arrangement that lets a waitlisted player play free until a spot opens. This is the eighth duplicate pair we have flagged rather than resolved.

  • Shreveport
  • Est. 2002

  • 18+ and 30+
  • MSBL/MABL

The Red River Adult Baseball League started in 1993 as the Shreveport-Bossier Men's Senior Baseball League and took its current name in 2009. Two divisions, 18+ and 27+, the latter having previously been a 30+ before somebody looked at who was actually turning up. Twelve games each, late April to the end of August, real wood bats.

The fee is $240 a division, and the free agent arrangement is the most generous we have found anywhere: a player on the waiting list can play as a substitute at no cost until a permanent roster spot opens, and only then pays, pro-rated. Nobody is asked to buy a season sight unseen.

Teams include the Elysian Fields Rangers, Shreveport Firedogs, Twin City Trash Pandas, Shreveport Storm, Red River Rats and Redbirds, playing at Lakeside High, Tinsley Park, and Elysian Fields High School, which is across the state line in Texas. The Ark-La-Tex is a region precisely because nobody there treats those lines as real. David Pratt is president. [email protected].

  • Baton Rouge

  • Independent

The People's Baseball League is adult, co-ed, fast-pitch, wooden-bat sandlot baseball in New Orleans, and it states its purpose without hedging: to make baseball available to anyone who wants to play regardless of background, skill level, age, ethnicity and national origin, gender and gender identity, sexuality, class, and religion.

That is the only league in this entire directory that is co-ed by design rather than by silence, and it changes what the thing is. Ten teams: Basin Street Overflow, Bayou St. John Blues, Beef Sliders, Crete Street Riot, Fifth Ward Weebies, Gentilly Giants, Pelicans Baseball Club, Rougarou, Secret 9, and the Super Sundaes. Not one of those names was chosen by a committee.

Spring and fall seasons with playoffs, at Larry Gilbert Stadium, Joe Brown Park and elsewhere around the city, with broadcasts and podcasts of their own. The site says est. 2017 in the header and founded in 2016 in the about section, which is exactly the sort of discrepancy a sandlot league earns the right to.

Note for our records: we list this under Baton Rouge, and the league is plainly a New Orleans operation.

Before you ask

Common questions

  • How many adult baseball leagues are there in Louisiana?

High Cheese currently tracks 4 active adult leagues in Louisiana, carrying 23 teams between them. That is what we can stand behind today, not a claim that nothing else exists. Leagues form in somebody's driveway every spring and tell no one for two years.

  • How do I join a league in Louisiana?

Make a profile and turn the free agent switch on. That is the whole ask. Managers across Louisiana search this pool the week their shortstop discovers a work trip every Saturday through August, and they find whoever put themselves in it. You list what you throw, where you play, how far you will drive. The invitation comes to you. The other route is emailing an address nobody has opened since the last board handover, then waiting.

  • When does the season run in Louisiana?

Season lengths differ by league and are listed with each one below where the league states them. Broadly, amateur baseball is a late-spring-to-early-autumn arrangement, compressed at the northern end of the map into whatever window the weather grudgingly concedes.

  • Which Louisiana towns have leagues?

Leagues on this page are based in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Shreveport. Most draw players from well outside their listed town, so a drive is normal and nobody will think less of you for it.
