Illinois Baseball Leagues

Every adult baseball league we track in Illinois: what each one actually is, where it plays, and who to talk to. Written from the leagues’ own words where they still keep words somewhere, and honestly labelled where they do not.

The Benito Juarez Men's Baseball League has a domain of its own that loads a header and then stops. The page is real, the name renders, and no content ever arrives.

The name is worth pausing on. Benito Juárez was Mexico's first indigenous president, and a Chicago league carrying his name is naming itself after something considerably larger than a neighbourhood sponsor. Chicago has one of the largest Mexican-American populations in the country, concentrated in the southwest side, and its baseball has its own long history that the MSBL affiliates listed alongside this one do not touch.

We would like to carry this one properly rather than as a title tag. Send us the fields, the season and how to join.

  • Springfield
  • Independent

The Central Illinois Wood Bat League sits on a HomeTeamsOnline account named SPRINGFIELDPALLYS, which returns a 403 to us. The account name is the most informative thing available: Springfield Pallys, which reads like a team that predates the league's current title.

Wood bat in the league's name is a commitment rather than a description. Central Illinois is not a large market, and a league that narrows its own appeal by banning metal is one that has decided what it wants to be and would rather be smaller than compromise.

Springfield sits between Chicago's enormous adult baseball scene and St Louis, and belongs to neither. Send us the divisions and the season and this entry can say something useful.

  • 30+, 43+, 53+, 60+, and 65+
  • MSBL/MABL

Chicago Central MSBL dates to 1988 and carries twenty-six teams. Its certificate cannot be verified, which in practice means the same browser warning as an expired one: a full page telling visitors this site may not be what it claims.

Chicago is the densest concentration of adult baseball in this directory. Chicago North runs sixty teams across six divisions, the Midwest Suburban League forty-six across five, and this one twenty-six, plus the city association, the Roy Hobbs affiliate, and leagues in Elgin, Rockford and Peoria. Somewhere between two and three hundred teams play organised hardball in and around this city.

A league of that standing being introduced to new players by a certificate error is a small, fixable indignity. The specifics are behind it and we would rather carry them than describe the warning.

The Chicago Metropolitan Baseball Association was founded in 1994 and states its purpose plainly: dedicated to preserving amateur baseball in the City of Chicago. Not the suburbs. The city, where the fields are municipal, contested, and steadily being converted into other things.

Five teams now, the Electrons, Hounds, Blazers, White Sox and Hawks, playing at Winnemac Park, Laramie Park, La Villita and Amundsen High School. The league's own history runs 1994 to 2007, then 2013 to the present, and that gap of six years is the most honest thing on the site. Something stopped. Somebody restarted it. Very few organisations publish their own interruption.

The annual all-star game is called the Winnemac Fourth for All, held in the park it is named after. There is a fall league, and the bylaws and playing rules are published separately for anyone who wants to read them before joining.

  • MSBL/MABL

Chicago North MSBL is in its thirty-ninth season, running between fifty-six and sixty teams across six divisions: 18+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+ and 65+. The 65+ bracket alone is deep enough to need three separate flights, AA, AAA and a Sunday division, which is not something we have seen anywhere else.

Home is Bensenville, with games also at Maryville, Brookfield and Mount Prospect, plus an Azteca division in the schedule. The 2025 champions were the Woodpeckers, Mudville 9, the Zephyrs, the Dodgers, the A's and the White Sox. A team calling itself Mudville 9 in a fifty-and-over division has read the poem and decided to own the ending.

From January to April the league opens hitting facility access at Play Ball USA in Mount Prospect, which is the single most useful thing a northern league can offer. Chicago does not permit outdoor baseball for five months, and a league that gives its players somewhere to swing through the winter is a league whose April looks different. New players sign up for the draft. Hotline 847-604-2444; Max Reising is president.

  • Roy Hobbs Baseball

Chicagoland Roy Hobbs Baseball sits on a hosted site that refuses non-browser requests. Roy Hobbs is one of the three national sanctioning bodies that appear repeatedly in this directory, alongside MSBL and NABA, and it skews older, with a well-known week-long tournament in Fort Myers every autumn that a great many amateur players plan their year around.

A Roy Hobbs affiliate in Chicago is therefore a specific offer rather than a generic one: it is the route into that tournament, and the men who care about that tend to know exactly why they have chosen it.

This is the sixth Chicago-area listing we hold. The city's adult baseball is genuinely enormous and almost entirely unreadable from outside.

  • Elgin
  • 8 teams
  • Independent

The Elgin Men's Baseball League is on Facebook only. Elgin is thirty-five miles northwest of Chicago, out past Schaumburg, and sits inside the catchment of the Midwest Suburban League's forty-six teams.

A local league surviving next to an operation that size is doing something the big one cannot, and the usual answer is proximity: forty-six teams spread across the northwest suburbs still means driving, and a league that plays in Elgin means playing in Elgin.

We cannot read the page. If you organise this, the thing worth telling us is which fields you use, because that is the entire reason a player would choose you over the larger league next door.

  • Naperville
  • Other

The Midwest Suburban League runs more than forty-six teams across five divisions in Chicago's northwest suburbs, and every one of them is wood bat. The divisions are named National, American, Central, Federal, and, added in 2025, a Korean League run as instructional.

That last one is the most interesting line in this directory so far. An established forty-six-team league deciding to add an instructional division for a specific community, rather than simply hoping those players find their way into the existing ladder, is a deliberate act of recruitment. The Federal division plays weeknights, which solves the other recruitment problem: the men who cannot give up a weekend.

Twenty-two games, weekend play, best-of-three playoffs, all-star games at Wintrust Stadium in Schaumburg, championship rings, and MVP, Cy Young and Gold Glove awards. Teams travel to tournaments in Florida, Arizona and Las Vegas. The Ravens, Lookouts, Gators, Red Hawks and Cubs have all held national titles. Larry Kolcz is president at 773.430.7979; Eric Page handles player personnel.

One correction the league might want to make: its own page gives both 1997 and 1998 as the founding year.

  • Rockford
  • 31 teams
  • Other

The Northern Illinois Men's Baseball League runs out of Rockford and keeps its presence on Facebook.

Rockford is ninety miles from Chicago and firmly its own place, with a baseball history that includes the Rockford Peaches, the most famous team of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, whose park at Beyer Stadium is still there. Whatever this league's relationship to that history, it plays in a city where women's professional baseball was a serious concern before most of the men's leagues in this directory existed.

The page is behind a login and we cannot describe the league. Send us a season and a field and we will.

  • Peoria
  • 9 teams
  • Other

The Peoria Sunday Morning League keeps a Facebook page, and we hold a second record, Peoria Sunday Morning MABL, with a website and nine teams on it. Same town, same day, same time of day, two entries.

They are almost certainly one league. A Facebook page and a league website are how one organisation ends up in a directory twice, because they were added at different times from different sources and nobody noticed the names were describing the same Sunday.

We are not merging them without being told to. If you play in Peoria on a Sunday morning, there is one league doing this and you will find it under either name.

  • Peoria
  • 9 teams
  • 17+
  • MSBL/MABL

Peoria Sunday Morning MABL carries nine teams and answers with a 403 to anything that is not a browser, so we can confirm it is live and running and not much else.

The name is the entire proposition and it is a good one. Sunday morning, every week, in Peoria. No divisions to choose between, no evening fixtures that collide with a family, no travel. If you are in central Illinois and free before lunch on a Sunday, this is what there is.

We also carry a Peoria Sunday Morning League on Facebook, which is almost certainly the same operation under a slightly different name. That is the seventh probable duplicate pair in this directory and, as with the others, we would rather show both than quietly pick one.

Before you ask

Common questions

  • How many adult baseball leagues are there in Illinois?

High Cheese currently tracks 11 active adult leagues in Illinois, carrying 171 teams between them. That is what we can stand behind today, not a claim that nothing else exists. Leagues form in somebody's driveway every spring and tell no one for two years.

  • How do I join a league in Illinois?

Make a profile and turn the free agent switch on. That is the whole ask. Managers across Illinois search this pool the week their shortstop discovers a work trip every Saturday through August, and they find whoever put themselves in it. You list what you throw, where you play, how far you will drive. The invitation comes to you. The other route is emailing an address nobody has opened since the last board handover, then waiting.

  • When does the season run in Illinois?

Season lengths differ by league and are listed with each one below where the league states them. Broadly, amateur baseball is a late-spring-to-early-autumn arrangement, compressed at the northern end of the map into whatever window the weather grudgingly concedes.

  • Which Illinois towns have leagues?

Leagues on this page are based in Chicago, Elgin, Naperville, Peoria, Rockford, and Springfield. Most draw players from well outside their listed town, so a drive is normal and nobody will think less of you for it.
