Seven men, and a borrowed left fielder
Rosters go to the league by opening day with fees, proof of date of birth and signed waivers, and managers cannot change them after the first game -- though the board may take late arrivals at any point and decides itself which team they join.
What happens when a team is short is unusually well thought out. In the regular season seven original players are enough to start, with up to two borrowed from the league by the opposing manager's consent, and a borrowed man may only play left or right field -- never centre. Eight must take the field or it is a forfeit, and nine is the ceiling with borrowing. In the tournament it tightens: eight originals, one borrowed, and the borrowed player may not bat, so the vacant ninth slot is an automatic out -- except that a game will never be allowed to end on an automatic out.
A manager may bat as many players as he likes with a minimum of ten, and may share a batting position between two players, one of whom must be declared before play.
None of those rosters is published, which for a league that redrafts every season means nobody outside a dugout knows who is on what team. A High Cheese team page gives each club its own roster at its own address, kept current from the draft rather than from memory.
