Everyone gets drafted, and that is the whole idea
Okaloosa is celebrating its twenty-fifth year of local men's baseball in 2026. It plays in the Niceville, Eglin Air Force Base and Fort Walton Beach corner of Northwest Florida, takes anyone 18 and over who is not still in high school, welcomes all skill levels, and runs two seasons a year.
It is chartered through Roy Hobbs Baseball and holds to the Roy Hobbs position that all willing players deserve a chance to play organised ball. Its founding principle goes further than that and is unusually specific: players should be fielded so as to create parity across every team, so that each side has an equal opportunity to win every scheduled game. That is why the league drafts. Nobody keeps a roster from year to year -- everyone registers, everyone works out, and the board splits the talent on draft night.
A league built entirely on redistributing players each season lives or dies on how well it can see its own player pool. A High Cheese league page keeps the free agent list, the rosters and the results at one address the league owns, which is the same information the draft board is assembling by hand on registration Sunday.
