From six teams to two thousand players
The SDABL was born in the fall of 1986 after a tryout at Clairemont High School produced six teams ready to play ball. Forty years later it fields more than 150 teams a year and over 2,000 players, and describes itself as one of the largest adult baseball leagues in the country. Nothing else in this directory is close.
It is also specific about the environment it runs: a very family oriented, non-alcoholic, non-tobacco venue, providing men -- and women -- the opportunity to play the world's greatest sport. Its divisions run from 18+ through 55+ and include players into their seventies, arranged by age and ability so that almost anyone with a passion for the game has somewhere to compete comfortably every Saturday or Sunday. It promises a response to any enquiry within 48 hours.
A league of that size generates an enormous amount of baseball and publishes almost none of it. A High Cheese league page gives every one of those 150 clubs its own address with its roster, results and history on it, which at this scale is the difference between a competition and a directory of 2,000 people who cannot find each other.
