Sixteen seasons, all of them recorded
The league began in mid-2018 and its records start with that fall season. Since then it has played spring and fall every year -- sixteen seasons by 2026 -- and every one of them is recorded club by club with results, playoff records and championships.
The founders are named: Chad Johnson, Tyler Spencer, Tom Barto, Tommy Sipes and Kyle Gregory. Three of the five still appear in the records as managers of clubs, and one of them, Chad Johnson, is the league's director.
The championship record runs: the Redding Blue Jays in fall 2018, the Shasta Lake Rivers in fall 2019 and spring 2021, the Shasta County Sun Devils in fall 2022, Breakout Baseball in fall 2023, the Blue Jays again in spring and fall 2024, in fall 2025 and in spring 2026.
Eight years is not long, and this is already a more complete institutional record than leagues four times its age keep.
Seasons on a High Cheese league page accumulate at the league's own address with the standings, rosters and finals attached, so a record this good grows rather than being maintained.
Shasta Baseball League in detail
- Founded in 2018 by five men, run as a not-for-profit, and it breaks for the summer on purpose.
- Four games a Sunday at one field, with the umpires named on every line.
- Records are kept twice — what happened, and what the standings say.
- Every result sits in the schedule table, in the column beside the umpires.
- Every club, every season, every name change and every championship, active and inactive.
- Team records are kept exhaustively; individual statistics are not published.
- A PO box, a telephone number, and two addresses at the league's own domain.
- About thirteen dollars a game, paid to your manager, with the arithmetic explained.
- Four grounds across three cities, with Wynne Price carrying most of the season.
- Seven innings, 135 minutes, nine-inning playoffs, and a published rulebook.
- An attention banner at the top of the page, used for real changes.
- No gallery is published.
- An ongoing partnership with a service club, and coordination with three little leagues.
- Two playoff games at nine innings with no time limit, then a championship.
- A director and a three-man board, all named.
- Cost, season, game length, fields and why there is no summer baseball.
- A player consent form, required to play, and a rules and regulations document.
- Two seasons and one deliberate gap: no baseball between mid-June and mid-August.
- Hats and jerseys are a team expense, added by the manager on top of league fees.
- Named on every game in the schedule — the only league here that does it.
