Shasta Baseball League

About the Shasta Baseball League

Founded in 2018 by five men, run as a not-for-profit, and it breaks for the summer on purpose.

It stops in June, deliberately

The Shasta Baseball League was founded in mid-2018 by Chad Johnson, Tyler Spencer, Tom Barto, Tommy Sipes and Kyle Gregory, and provides community-based recreational baseball for men 18 and over across Shasta County. It is independent but coordinates with the cities of Shasta Lake, Anderson and Redding, and works alongside the local little leagues and the Redding Colt 45s.

Its calendar contains a decision most leagues never make: spring runs mid-March to early June, fall runs mid-August to early November, and the league breaks from mid-June to mid-August to accommodate summer travel ball and family and recreational activities. It gives up the best two months of the year so that its players' children can play, and says so.

Each season is ten to fifteen regular season games -- seven innings with no new inning after 135 minutes -- then two playoff games at nine innings with no time limit, then a championship game.

Everything this league publishes is unusually complete, and all of it is on a single hand-built page. A High Cheese league page puts the schedule, the standings and every roster at an address the league owns, so eight years of franchise records get pages rather than paragraphs.
