Honest about the draft
Fees are $250 for Maine Woods 45, $190 for Maine Woods 60, and $300 to play both. The league provides jerseys and a hat; players bring their own bats, helmets and pants. And it says the difficult thing plainly: new players cannot always be guaranteed a roster spot — the league tries to place everyone, but it depends on how many spots exist that season and what particular skill a man brings. Its advice is to attend the indoor workouts in April to improve your chances of being drafted.
Telling a fifty-year-old that he might not get picked, before he pays, is more respectful than pretending otherwise, and pointing him at the workouts is the practical follow-through. The league also keeps a crossover and waitlist page for exactly this. A High Cheese free agent pool makes that waitlist public and continuous, so a man who misses the April draft is visible to ten managers in July rather than sitting on a list.
