For those three hours
The Tucson Amateur Baseball League has been an MSBL member since 1989 and runs four age divisions -- 18+, 25+, 35+ and 45+ -- for players 18 and over. Its stated mission is simple: to provide an opportunity for individuals 18 and over to play organised and competitive baseball. Then the sentence that does the real work: we are all wannabes, has beens, never was, but for those three hours we aren't married, we have no kids, we don't have bills, and we don't have jobs -- we are in the batter's box, or on the mound, in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the bases loaded.
That paragraph appears word for word on the Sioux Amateur Baseball League's site in South Dakota, so it is a piece of shared MSBL writing rather than one league's own. It is good enough that two leagues fifteen hundred miles apart have both adopted it.
Beyond age, the league imposes no restriction on which division a player joins -- it depends entirely on his skill and comfort level on the field, and a player may play in more than one.
The season runs from the last weekend of March through September, ending in a double-elimination playoff whose championship games are held at Kino Sports Stadium.
A High Cheese league page keeps the schedule, the standings and every roster at an address the league owns, which for a competition with thirty-seven years of MSBL membership is a record worth holding.
