Handed the balls before every game
Umpires have a numbered section of their own in the league's rulebook, sitting between player conduct and the ejections, suspensions and forfeits section.
Their most concrete published role is logistical: the league provides the official Wilson A1010 game balls and issues them to the umpires before the start of each game, with teams providing extras if needed.
The rulebook's opening also names umpires among the people whose safety is the league's highest priority, alongside players, managers, fans and staff.
No association, rate or route to working games is published. Assigning crews across three divisions and two seasons is the same problem as the schedule, and a High Cheese league page runs both from one fixture list.
