The rules that keep the fields
The league publishes a rulebook and is wood bat throughout. What it enforces hardest is conduct at other people's grounds, set out as a standing notice: no tobacco products at any facility it uses, dip included; no metal spikes and no seeds at Rose Park or Drakes Creek; no cleats on the field before game time at Twitty or Shelby; and dugouts spotless after every game. Its closing line is the reasoning — let's be good guests.
Individual grounds add their own: Beech and Drakes Creek ban metal spikes outright, Drakes Creek extending it to the pitcher and catcher. A league that plays on eleven borrowed diamonds lives or dies on that page. High Cheese keeps a league's rules beside its schedule and attaches a ground's own restrictions to the fixture, so the spikes rule reaches a man before he laces up.
