The list has a price of admission — for the clubs
Tryouts are held each spring for all four divisions. The league is straightforward that registering does not assure a place on a team, encourages prospective players to attend, and says it does its best to get as many interested players onto rosters as possible. Fees run roughly $275 to $400 a player.
The free agent list is kept separately by each division's Player Representative — the 18+ by one man, the 30+ by another, the 50+ and 60+ by a third. And access to it is conditional: a club may only see the list if it attended the spring managers' meeting and is completely paid up on all fees. Making the pool a privilege of clubs in good standing is a clever piece of leverage and it depends entirely on four men maintaining four lists. A High Cheese free agent pool is one list on the league's own page, visible to every manager in good standing across all four divisions, updating as men sign.
