Given a seat at the table
The league appoints an Umpire Liaison to its board — Rich Doster, who also appears in its history among the first men to reach a hundred games as a player. Its founding premise makes umpires equally responsible, alongside the commissioner, managers, players and fans, for keeping mature attitudes prevailing.
Putting umpires inside the governance rather than outside it, and giving a former player the job of speaking for them, is the most thoughtful arrangement in this directory. No individual official or fee is published. On High Cheese the crew attaches to the fixture, so a liaison is working from the same record as the managers.
