Long Island MSBL/MABL

Long Island MSBL/MABL Rules

A rulebook that loosens as the divisions get older, and a use-it-or-lose-it runner rule.

Written differently for a 60-year-old

The highlights are published in full. A/B batting order from any position. Ten men in uniform means all ten bat; nine means the opposition may choose to bat nine too. Run rule at twelve after five and a half or six complete, and once six are in the bank the game ends the moment the differential is met. No new inning after two hours forty-five. Doubleheaders are seven innings unless both managers agree otherwise. A pitcher pulled from the mound cannot return that inning but may re-enter to pitch once — and only one pitcher a game may do it. One intentional walk per team per game, no pitches thrown.

Then it changes with age. The 45+, 55+ and 60+ divisions get three courtesy runners instead of two, with the third reserved for the pitcher or catcher and staying with the position. Pitchers and catchers are exempt from running for anybody else. A designated man who runs anyway loses the privilege for the rest of the game — use it or lose it. And above 45, a courtesy runner may not attempt a straight steal of second or third. High Cheese keeps a league's rules beside its schedule and against its rosters, so six divisions with six sets of exceptions are applied by the fixture rather than remembered by the umpire.
