The rate is public
The SJMSBL keeps a page titled Umpire Contact & Fee Schedule, which makes it the only league here that publishes both who its officials are and what they are paid.
For a manager, that removes the single most common argument of a season. For an umpire considering the work, it removes the need to ask. And for a league running six divisions across three states, it is the only way the arithmetic stays consistent.
The league's newsletter is also addressed explicitly to managers, players, umpires and fans, so officials are treated as part of the community rather than as a service bought in.
Assigning crews across six divisions and three states is the same problem as the schedule, and a High Cheese league page runs both from one fixture list -- with the fee attached to the game rather than to a separate page.
