Started 2007, for people who did not want softball
The Asheville ABL is a men's adult baseball league in Asheville, managed under the Western North Carolina Youth Sports Association, and it says its organization began in 2007. Its own description of why it exists is blunt: now there is another option, other than softball, for the baseball enthusiast around Asheville.
It is 18 and over, wood bat only, and capped at twelve teams because of field space. Players become eligible on their eighteenth birthday and may not be actively playing or committed to college baseball at any level, which includes college players home for the summer.
Everything about it is shaped by one constraint: it plays weeknights on borrowed fields. Games start as early as 6:25pm, Monday through Wednesday typically, Thursday if scheduling forces it.
High Cheese gives a league working inside those constraints a schedule everybody can see and a roster that stays current, so the twelve-team cap is managed rather than negotiated by email.
