Baseball as the mechanism, not the point
CABL states outright that it is about much more than playing baseball. It describes itself as a tight-knit baseball community dedicated to fostering family bonds, promoting citizenship, and supporting each other through volunteerism, donations and partnerships.
The structural part matters: it is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and says donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Nothing else in this directory is incorporated as a charity.
And membership carries a vote. Members can nominate a cause most important to them, so the money a season generates goes where the players decide.
High Cheese gives a league the roster, the schedule and the record at one address, which for an organization that has to account for itself to members and to the IRS is the part that should not live in one person's spreadsheet.
