Yastrzemski, Martinez, Pesky, Ortiz, Radatz, Conigliaro
The Yawkey League's award list is the most elaborate in this directory, and every trophy carries a name.
The Carl Yastrzemski Most Valuable Player went to Sam Browning of the Al Thomas Athletics. The Pedro Martinez Pitcher of the Year to Jeff Meisner of the Brighton Black Sox. The Johnny Pesky Rookie of the Year to Bobby Higgins, also Black Sox. The David Ortiz Playoff MVP to Justine Makisimu. The Dick Radatz Fireman of the Year -- a relief award named for the Monster -- to Alex Montero. The Tony Conigliaro Comeback Player of the Year to Jake Hatch. All five of those to Black Sox players.
Alongside the Boston names sit the league's own: the Barbara Medieros Manager of the Year to John Griffith, the Steve George Executive of the Year to David Treska, the Peter Williams Umpire of the Year to Jason Erdos, and a President's Award to Doug George.
Naming an umpire of the year, and naming the award after an umpire, is something almost nobody does.
A High Cheese league page keeps each award attached to the season and the club that won it, so a Radatz Fireman of the Year is a relief record rather than a name on a list.
