Ventura NABA

Ventura NABA Extreme Heat Protocol

A gallon of water per player, mandatory electrolytes, and shade structures required.

Mandatory heat prep protocols

The league issues a weather alert addressed to all VABL managers, players, umpires and fans, and it is the most detailed safety document in this directory.

On hydration: dehydration can set in before you even step onto the field, and do not rely on field facilities or snack bars alone. Every player must bring a minimum of one gallon of water or electrolytes for his game. Pre-hydrate -- start loading fluids on Friday and Saturday, because drinking right before game time is too late. Electrolytes are mandatory, because water alone is not enough under high heat, and the league lists what counts: electrolyte packets, Gatorade or Powerade, or pickle juice, to replace lost sodium and minerals. Managers should bring a team cooler stocked with ice and damp towels for cooling between innings.

On shade: shade is essential to lower core body temperature during breaks, and teams and spectators are strongly encouraged to bring ten-by-ten pop-up tents for dugouts, warm-up areas and bleachers.

The league names its inland venues specifically -- Ojai Valley School and Fillmore Two Rivers Park will see severe heat -- and notes that even its coastal Ventura fields will be unseasonably hot on the turf and dirt.

A safety notice this specific has to reach every player before Sunday morning. A High Cheese league page pushes it into the schedule each of them already carries, attached to the game it applies to.
