The 2024 Cy Young went to Kyle Werman of the Marlins, back to back, and the league justified it properly: a 0.72 ERA to lead the league, a 0.76 WHIP tied with the Padres' Julio Viera, second in strikeout rate and total strikeouts behind the Red Sox's Jason Ferrie, with six wins, a complete game and a save across five starts and three relief appearances. Then the part that decided it — he pitched in all three games of the championship series against the top-seeded Dirt Dawgs, taking the win in Game 1 and the save in Game 3, fifteen innings in a week, to give the Marlins a second straight title.
The MVP write-up is the same standard: a .404 average, 21 hits, a 1.119 OPS, and a come-from-behind three-run homer against the defending Bux-Mont champions in June. Statistics on High Cheese come out of the box scores as they are entered and follow a player between clubs and seasons, so the numbers behind an award are attached to the award rather than retyped into a news post.
