The pictures went first
The MVP and Cy Young announcements are written around photographs embedded directly into the page. Neither reaches a plain reader; what survives is the prose.
A league that took the trouble to photograph its award winners and write them up properly has lost the images and kept the words, which is the wrong way round for anybody who wants to remember a face. Team and league pages on High Cheese carry photos and push them into a feed the whole league reads, so a championship pitcher's picture is filed with the season he won it in.
