The August 4 recap runs the whole night: the Monarchs to 5-1, best in the league, behind four scoreless innings from Steve Powell and five more from Scott Metzinger; the Clowns levelling at 3-3 on an eighteen-hit attack with Allen Tunstall taking five of them; the Black Sox finally winning one 6-4 despite what the league itself calls tremendous pitching by the two men who lost it; the Rockies edging the Cubs 6-5. Each item closes by telling both clubs where they play next Tuesday and on which diamond.
Naming the losing pitcher's good outing in the report of his defeat is a small act of decency and nobody else here does it. A league on High Cheese gets a wire where finals post themselves as the books are finalized, so a writer with eight teams to cover is left with the part only he can do.
