West Haven Twilight League

About the West Haven Twilight League

Amateur baseball since 1933, and the oldest continuously running league in this directory.

Ninety-three years

The West Haven Twilight League states its own age at the top of every page: amateur baseball since 1933, serving southern Connecticut.

Nothing else in this directory is close. A league that started the year Prohibition ended, that has run through the Depression, the Second World War and every decade since, and that is still playing.

Twilight is the clue to how. Twilight leagues were built for men who finished a shift and played in the last hours of daylight, and the name has outlived the working pattern that produced it.

Five clubs carry it today, and all five are named for the businesses that pay for them.

For a competition with ninety-three years behind it, the record is thin: a news feed, a store, a donor page and a handful of honour rolls. A High Cheese league page keeps the schedule, the standings and every roster at an address the league owns, so a league older than most professional franchises has somewhere to put its own history.
