Seven, maybe six
The 2022 registration notice named the clubs and hedged: as many as seven teams — A's, BlueJackets, Braves, Cardinals, Giants, Heavyweights, Red Sox — with no confirmation from the BlueJackets yet, so possibly just six. A later notice said the Brewers and the Braves were still looking for players.
A league counting its own clubs in public, uncertain in April whether it has six or seven, is being honest about how adult baseball actually works. Rosters on High Cheese update as men sign, so the count answers itself and a club short two players is visible to every free agent in the pool rather than mentioned once in a news post.
