For those three hours
The SABL is a recreational adult wood bat league in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for men who love the game and want to keep playing in what it calls a fun spirited yet still competitive environment. Its players range in age from 21 to 71 -- a fifty-year spread in one league, without divisions to separate them.
Its mission statement is worth quoting in full because nothing else here says it as well: the goal is to provide an opportunity for men 18 and over to play competitive baseball. We are all wannabes, has-beens, never was, but for those three hours we aren't married, we have no kids, we don't have bills, and we don't have jobs. We are at bat, or on the mound, in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the bases loaded. We are a brotherhood of men that have a passion for the game of baseball.
Nearly every game is on a Sunday.
That is a league that knows exactly what it is for and has almost no public record of having done it. A High Cheese league page keeps the schedule, the standings and every roster at an address the league owns, so the three hours are written down.
