One man, one phone
The league's entire contact structure is Gideon Berger, listed for HBL with a mobile number and a personal email address, repeated at the foot of the homepage and in every recruitment notice on it. We have not reproduced the digits here; they are on the league's own site for anyone who wants them.
That is the real finding. A league fielding sixteen teams across two divisions and three seasons a year, revising its schedule thirteen times a summer, runs through a single person's phone. It works because he answers it.
A High Cheese league page gives a league a front door that keeps working when one person is at sea, at work, or finally taking a season off -- and it puts the recruitment notice, the waiver and the roster behind the same address instead of behind a text message.
Oahu MABL in detail
- An all-wood-bat league playing three seasons a year on Oahu, grown out of the older Oahu Baseball League.
- The summer 2026 schedule is a PDF, and it is on its thirteenth revision.
- Results and standings are published as documents, revised up to nineteen times a season.
- Results ride along inside the standings documents rather than existing as games.
- Sixteen clubs across Open and D2, with some of the best names in adult baseball.
- Both divisions have player and team stats pages, last populated for Summer 2021.
- A fresh waiver every season, filed through the platform, with a parental waiver for anyone under 18.
- The facilities page is also unedited template: FACILITY #1 and FACILITY #2.
- A combined code of conduct and rulebook, currently on its sixth version.
- Season recaps for fall 2023 and summer 2022, filed under past seasons.
- No gallery is published.
- The league calls them partners and treats them as services rather than logos.
- Every season ends in a bracket, and the league has run an inter-island tournament as a fundraiser.
- Grown out of the Oahu Baseball League, with a history page still promised.
- The board page was never filled in: it still reads Jane Doe, President.
- The league answers standard, ability and schedule; it never answers price.
- A rulebook, a waiver, and a COVID-19 procedures plan still on its fifth version.
- Three seasons a year with roughly stated start and end dates, and an empty calendar page.
- Cage deals, a glove relacer with a price list, and a custom wood bat maker.
- No crew, association or assignor is named.
