Seven and eleven, going on twenty-one
The SSABL runs seven teams in its 18+ division and eleven in its 38+, and calls itself the largest recreational baseball league for adults in Northwest Indiana. It is based in Hammond and holds a national charter.
What separates it from most leagues this size is that it is publicly, deliberately expanding. It says the competition is thriving and that it is looking to add three brand-new 18+ teams next year. It is running a community survey to gauge interest in a 50-and-over recreational division, framed as bringing the game back to that crowd. And it has a standing call for anyone who wants to manage or coach an 18+ team.
2025 finished with the A's champions at 18+ and the Yankees at 38+.
That is a league that treats growth as a project rather than a hope, and it publishes each step of it. A High Cheese league page keeps the schedule, the standings and every roster at an address the league owns, so three new clubs arrive into a record rather than into a spreadsheet.
