An 18+ wood bat club in New Jersey
The Ghost Runners are an adult baseball club in the New Jersey Amateur Baseball League, which describes itself as the largest 18+ amateur baseball league in the state. The club plays an eighteen game spring season on Sundays from April through July, with wood bats.
A ghost runner is the imaginary baserunner used when a side is short of players, and in the professional game it is the automatic runner on second in extra innings. Naming a club after a rule that exists because somebody is missing is the sharpest joke in this league.
The league sorts its clubs into tiers by talent rather than geography: Premier, Intermediate, Intermediate AAA, Amateur, Amateur AAA, a Legends bracket at 35+ and 45+, and a midweek division. It runs an All Star Game, a Home Run Derby and a double elimination playoff bracket with a wild card.
A hundred and fifty-one clubs share one league website and not one of them has a page on it, which is the gap a High Cheese address closes for the Ghost Runners.
