Class C wood bat baseball in Hancock, Minnesota

The Hancock Orphans are an amateur baseball club from Hancock, Minnesota, playing Class C in the Land O' Ducks Wood League under the Minnesota Baseball Association. They went 4-8 in 2026 under manager Bryan Shaw.

The Orphans. A Stevens County town of about seven hundred people named its baseball club after having nobody, and then went out and played wood bat baseball under it. The Chicago Cubs were called the Orphans between 1898 and 1902, after Cap Anson left and the club had no father figure, so there is precedent, but nobody in Hancock is leaning on it.

Two classification points is the second lowest grade the association awards. The Minnesota Baseball Association lists the ballpark as Hancock, the fifth club in this set whose home ground is recorded as the name of the town.

Four wins with wood, from two points, in a town of seven hundred, playing as the Orphans. There is a whole novel in that sentence and none of it is written down.

A club called the Orphans, at two points, swinging wood, in a town of seven hundred. There is a novel in that and the association has a table. High Cheese has the page.
