Adult Baseball’s National Season Opens With Soft Schedules and a Hard ID Rule
Three national adult baseball events open in three days. Roy Hobbs has locked Week I schedules but not later weeks. MSBL requires a physical government ID at the ballpark. Opening weekend still turns on last-minute logistics.
Which schedules are final as tournament week begins?
Roy Hobbs Week I starts Oct. 17 in Fort Myers. MSBL Week One starts Oct. 18 in the Phoenix area. NABA Las Vegas starts Oct. 19. As play begins, some schedules are still tentative, and MSBL will check a physical photo ID at the park.
Three national adult baseball tournaments open within three days. The new operational facts are not entry fees or registration forms. They are unfinished schedules, a non-negotiable ID check at the ballpark, and a paid clubhouse add-on that costs almost as much as some local season fees. Opening weekend is when those rules become real.
Roy Hobbs drew a bright line on its homepage, updated Oct. 13. According to royhobbs.com, the 35+, 45+ and 53+ schedules are final. The 60+, 65-75+ and 70-80+ schedules are still tentative. Week I (Veterans 35+ and Masters 45+) starts Oct. 17 in Fort Myers, Florida, per the Roy Hobbs World Series registration page. Later weeks run through Nov. 21.
MSBL is still building its grid. The MSBL World Series page says schedules “will be posted as they are completed.” Week One covers the 50+, 70+, 40+ and 25+ divisions from Oct. 18-24 in the Phoenix area. NABA’s Las Vegas World Championship Series follows Oct. 19-25.
Finalizing early-week brackets while leaving later weeks soft is common for multi-week events that depend on field availability.
For managers and players, it means travel for Week I is locked, but hotel and flight changes for November weeks may still be necessary.
What does MSBL require at the ballpark?
A physical government-issued photo ID. In a July 30 message, MSBL World Series Tournament Director Tom Prendergast told 2026 players the rule is non-negotiable. A phone picture of an ID does not count. Leaving the card in a hotel room does not count. The stated reasons are age verification and screening for former professionals whose minor-league records are easy to find online.
Prendergast also warned that ID challenges go both ways: if one team asks to see an opponent’s ID, it should expect the same request in return. The World Series office at Tempe Diablo Stadium opens once the tournament is underway.
That is eligibility enforcement at the gate, not on a registration form.
Adult leagues that rely on age brackets and ex-pro limits need a record that travels with the player and can be checked in minutes. Paper waivers and online forms do not replace a card in a pocket.
What else are tournaments selling this week?
Roy Hobbs is selling a clubhouse experience on top of the team entry fee. The RHWS Locker Room Option assigns players a locker at the former Boston Red Sox Player Development Complex in Fort Myers. Pricing tiers run from $299 for a single player to $3,450 for a full team of more than 13 players if paid by Oct. 1 ($3,800 after). A $105 non-refundable deposit holds each locker. The package includes laundry, trainers, hydrotherapy tubs, breakfast and snacks. Full teams of 13 or more get preferred scheduling near the complex when possible.
The free-agent list is still moving too. Roy Hobbs posted an updated free-agent PDF dated as of Oct. 13, four days after the Oct. 9 version. Pickup still requires email confirmation to [email protected] from both the player and the team.
The locker-room product shows how national events monetize the week beyond the entry fee.
It also creates another workflow managers have to track: who paid the deposit, which tier the team landed in, and whether enough players signed up for preferred field scheduling.
What it means for league owners, officers, managers, players and sponsors
League owners and officers: If you host or send teams to a national event, publish which weeks are final and which are tentative. Soft later weeks are easier to accept when you say so up front.
Managers: Carry a checklist for opening weekend: physical IDs for every rostered player, printed schedules for the first week, and a separate tally for add-ons like locker rooms or practice fields.
Players: Bring a current government photo ID to MSBL games. A phone image is not enough. If you are on a free-agent list, confirm any pickup in writing before you travel.
Sponsors: Opening weekend concentrates thousands of adult players in Fort Myers, the Phoenix area and Las Vegas. The audience is paying for baseball and for amenities around it.
Software buyers: Ask vendors to show schedule-versioning (final vs. tentative by week), eligibility checks that support age and ex-pro rules, and optional paid add-ons tied to a roster. Those are the opening-weekend jobs.
